LC-1 |
Some radios have built-in antennas for the AM broadcast band (MW) and no connection for an external AM antenna. To connect to these radios use the Palomar LC-1 loop coupler. It takes the LA-1 loop amplifier output and converts it to a magnetic field that couples to the radio’s antenna. AM reception is much improved. |

MDB-2 | Magnetic Dipole Balun – The Palomar MDB-2 is a magnetic dipole balun replacing the center insulator. It is for receive only (no transmit!) for 500 kHz to 30 MHz. It converts the balanced signal from the dipole to an unbalanced output for the coaxial cable. It prevents signal pickup on the outside of the coax thus reducing noise pickup. It also connects both sides of the antenna to the coax shield (at DC) so static charges can drain to ground instead of going through the radio. The balun has an So-239 to accept a standard PL-259 connector. (thanks to Fred N8EKU for picture and description)
MLB1 | Magnetic Longwire Balun – Specifications: Frequency: 50 KHz – 80 MHz. Input: 50/75 ohms for coaxial cable. Output: High impedance. Connector: SO-239 (for cable) 12” #18 Teflon wire lead (for antenna). Mounting: Stainless steel eye bolt. Size: 1-3/4” diameter. Case: White PVC epoxy filled weatherproof. | Manual | $59.95

P-405 | The Palomar Engineers P-405 receiver preamplifier improves weak signal reception for the shortwave listener. Frequency coverage is 1.8 to 54 MHz in four ranges: 1.8-4, 4-10, 10-21 and 21-54 MHz. It provides up to 20 dB of gain and reduces image and spurious response. This preamp also features a two position antenna switch and -20 dB attenuator. Input and output is SO-239 jacks. 8.5 x 3 x 5 inches 1 lb. (210x70x130mm 0.5 kg). Requires a 9 volt battery which is accessible from the rear panel. | Manual

PD-800 | PD-8OO works with transceivers that have three oscillators in their heterodyne scheme. One usually a crystal oscillator, another a VFO or variable frequency oscillator, and the other a fixed frequency “carrier oscillator” .
