Founded in 1965 by Jack Althouse (K6NY), Palomar Engineers has been a trusted name in RF engineering for nearly six decades. In 2013, the company was acquired by Susan Kline (CEO) and Robert Brehm, AK6R (COO /Chief Engineer), who continue the tradition of quality, education, and technical excellence.
The name Palomar—Spanish for “dove cote”—reflects both our Southern California roots and our connection to Palomar Mountain, home of the world-famous Mt. Palomar Observatory.
About the COO / Chief Engineer
Robert Brehm, BSEE, MSEE, MBA – University of California, Berkeley (AK6R), has been an active ham operator for over 50 years. His expertise spans contesting, RTTY, amplitude modulation, vintage radio restoration, linear amplifiers, and innovative antenna design.
Bob is frequently active on 3.870 AM, 3.895 Vintage SSB, and the Saturday Swap Net on 7.240 MHz, sharing technical insights and helping hams solve RFI and antenna-related challenges. First licensed as WB6QFA in 1963 under the guidance of his Elmer, Bill WB6KZO (SK), Bob continues to mentor the next generation of radio enthusiasts.
