Off Center Antennas are often tuned below the fundamental band in order that the harmonic bands are resonant withing the band. E.G. it is not uncommon for an 80M OCF to be tuned for 3.45 MHz and this make the high end of 80/75 meters have a higher SWR sometimes over 3:1 making it difficult to use the built in tuners in most modern transceivers. The same condition may exist for 40M OCF antennas with resonance below 7 MHz.
The Resonance Compensator comes to the rescue! Just place it in the electrical center of the Palomar Engineers OCF antenna with its easy wingnut and washer installation (no soldering required) and start to enjoy 80 meter resonance near 3.75 MHz for 80 M OCF's while keeping other bands unchanged. If you are adding the RC-8040 to the existing Palomar Engineers 80M OCF, note you will change the length of both the short and the long leg of the antenna. See diagram included here of new dimensions. You may simply fold back thru the insulator any excess in each leg.
Tech Note: The RC-8040 has NOT BEEN TESTED on other brands of OCF antennas, many of which don't use hybrid baluns with internal chokes at the feed point. Consequently the coax braid is part of the antenna and it is very difficult to determine the placement of the RC-8040 because it may not be the physical center of the total wire length.
