DC Power Filters — Eliminate Switching Supply Noise
Is your receiver full of buzz, hash, or whining tones?
Modern switching power supplies, LED lighting, and digital gear often inject noise directly into your transceiver through the DC power lines. Palomar DC Power Filters stop that noise before it gets into your rig — giving you the quiet background your station deserves.
Each filter uses high-performance ferrite technology to block RF noise currents without reducing voltage or current to your radio. Built for rugged, long-term use in fixed or mobile stations.
When to Use a DC Power Filter
- You use a switching power supply (instead of a linear one).
- Your receiver noise increases when the supply or computer is turned on.
- You hear a whining sound that changes with transmit power.
- You see hash lines across your spectrum display or waterfall.
If any of these apply, install a DC Power Filter between your power supply and radio.
Palomar DC Power Filter Features
- Reduces DC line noise and conducted RFI by up to 30 dB
- Handles current loads up to 35 amps continuous
- Wide frequency suppression from 500 kHz to 1 GHz
- Available with Anderson Powerpole® connectors or screw terminals
- Compact design fits any shack or mobile setup
Model Selection Guide
| Model | Current Rating | Connector Type | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| PPNF-3 | 30 Amps | Anderson Powerpole® | Most 100W–200W HF transceivers |
| RFI-N25 | 30 Amps | Inline leads | Most 100W–200W HF transceivers |
| RFI-N700 | 25 Amps | Inline leads | Electronic filter for 12V, automotive, RV, alternator, pulse noise suppression |
For multi-radio stations or noisy mobile environments, add a Ferrite Snap-On Kit (mix 31) to DC lines for maximum suppression.
Installation Tips
- Install the filter as close to your radio as possible on the positive and negative DC leads.
- Keep DC cables twisted or bundled together to reduce loop area.
- For switching supplies, add additional ferrite beads near the power supply output.
- Use shorter leads whenever possible for minimum coupling.
