When considering solutions for AM broadcast (550 Khz – 1.8 Mhz) you should consider if you need a coax to balanced load (BALUN) or unbalanced load (UNUN) output, the coax feed line impedance (usually 50 or 75 ohm), and the power level required (PEP or continuous AM carrier).

Palomar Engineers utilizes Mix 31, 43 and Mix 77 ferrite materials and large iron power toroids for the AM broadcast frequency range products.

Coax feed line chokes (1:1) can have their outputs configured as unun (unbalanced output – single terminal and ground or coax connector of N, SO-239, or DIN) or as a balun (balanced with top 1/4″ stainless steel studs/wingnuts).

Coax fed impedance transformers (< 1:1 or > 1:1) can also have their outputs configured as ununs or baluns.
